Mission Statement

The Mission of IMANI Community Development Corporation is to improve the lives of our community, on the South Side of Chicago, by providing a holistic approach to servicing the needs of the entire family. We provide services and programs addressing specific challenges of the community, resulting in healing many of the economic, spiritual, social and emotional needs.

Vision Statement

IMANI’s Vision reflects an IMANI Community that includes a “Family Life Center” housing the programs under Youth Mentorship and Economic Development. And our motto is Bringing Love, Respect and Hope BACK to the neighborhood by providing Resources and therefore Empowering the Community.

IMANI was organized in 2001 and since inception has focused efforts in three main programmatic areas:

The mission of the K.O.G. (Keepers of the Gate) Warrior Project is to make a positive impact in the lives of young men within an environment that promotes the performing arts, character development, mentorship and academic support.

Who We Are
The K.O.G. Warriors are a group of energetic and motivated young men who are inspired to use their lives to make a difference in their community. The K.O.G. Warriors were birthed into existence by the vision and foresight of Jeffrey D. Hodges, President of the Imani Community Development Corporation. What began as a one-night performance has evolved into an explosion of young men crying out in thirsty pursuit to fulfill their destiny of becoming the premier leaders of tomorrow.

Safe Haven

The IMANI Safe Haven Initiative is a program authorized by the City of Chicago Public Schools [CPS] to house school-age children providing a safe environment while out of school during after school hours, Summer and holiday break camps. All meals are provided by a CPS approved vendor.

Our After-School tutoring program embraces STEM and includes other topics such as reading, social studies and history, all focusing on improving the development and academiccompetitiveness of the students. The youth are provided a snack and dinner.

During the summer and holiday breaks, the youth are provided breakfast and lunch. Also, the children have classes in anti-bullying, food nutrition, financial literacy and discussions on current events plaguing the youth. The youth participate in recreational activities outside such as sports, dance etc. We service over 100 youth throughout the year. This program is truly making an impact on the community.

Food Program

The IMANI Food Pantry has been in operation for over 15 years feeding needy families in the South Shore Community. We have two major partners and several other charitable organizations that assist with the food pantry providing supplies and community residents in need: Chicago Greater Food Depository, Anti-Hunger Federation and the Department of Human Services, Trade Joes,……

The resources of the Chicago Greater Food Depository serve over 200 families monthly. With the help of volunteers, an 18-wheeler truck is unloaded at our facility and the food is distributed to assure that each person leaves with approximately four bags of food for their household. The Anti-Hunger Federation …..

We have also teamed up with the Wing’s Ministry of Trader Joes to enable us to reach and feed an additional 150 residents weekly. Our van travels to the Trader Joes Food Store, loads up and brings the food to our site for distribution. This process provides maintenance for our on-site pantry operation.

The Department of Human Services refers clients to our on-site pantry to receive emergency groceries. In addition to these assisted programs, we also provide Holiday groceries to the community on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

It is our heart’s desire that no one within our reach goes hungry. We open our doors all families and take great joy in being able to live up to our motto “the church that meets the community needs.”
